Frank Xavier Quinn, 1940 Nov 14 – 2025 Sep 29
Lieutenant Colonel Frank X Quinn was born in Scranton PA, to Frank Quinn and Anne McIntyre. He grew up with his brother Jerry in a strong Irish-Catholic-Democratic household. Frank attended Nativity Catholic School and South Scranton Catholic High School, where his wit & humor was occasionally corrected by nuns with rulers.
Frank earned his B.S. in Sociology at University of Scranton, Master of Social Work at Fordham University, and completed PhD studies at University of Chicago. Frank met the love of his life Ruth Herwerth in Schenectady NY. They married in 1965 raising two children and built a life filled with family devotion, adventure, community building, and humor.
In 1966, Frank joined the Army Medical Service Corps. He held a wide range of roles both in and outside the Army often joking that his résumé reflected a “trouble keeping a job” streak—Army officer, bartender, college professor (ten schools, including six years at West Point), CEO, COO and more.
A proud veteran and lifelong public servant, Frank served as Glenville Town Supervisor, was active in Rotary International, the Senior Center, and many other organizations. He enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling, poker, and was writing a book on the Life of Jesus & Rise of Christianity.
He passed away peacefully in his home September 29. He was preceded by his parents, brother Jerry, and beloved wife, Ruth. He is survived by his children, Frank G. Quinn and Cathy Bryson; his son-in-law, Scott Bryson; and grandchildren, Shelby and Elizabeth. His legacy includes 2,678,486,400 seconds of a life well lived.
Calling hours are 11 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, October 11 at the Glenville Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:30 PM at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church. 5:30+ will be a traditional Irish Wake at 1886 Ridge Road. Sharing happy stories and memories are encouraged. Burial will take place at 10 AM Monday, October 13, at Memory Gardens. Our initial focus will be spreading Hope to Schenectady youth in memory of Ruth Quinn who was born there in 1939 and passed in Ellis Hospital January 2023. Her first job was at the library and she volunteered for decades helping provide food to those in need. Her memory will live on each time a child reads a book :-)
